
Socio-formative Roots (Arraigo)
The socio-formative roots (arraigo) is a temporary residence permit for exceptional circumstances that may be granted to foreign citizens who are in Spain in an irregular administrative situation. It is granted through the completion of regulated training for employment, training aimed at obtaining a professional certificate, or training that facilitates the employability of the applicant.
This route allows you to regularise your administrative situation if you have resided in the country continuously for a minimum period of two years.
Requirements
🌎 Not being a citizen of the European Union, EEA (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) or Switzerland, or a relative of citizens of these countries who are subject to the EU citizen regime.
🇪🇸 Being in Spain and not having the status of an applicant for international protection (neither at the time of application nor during processing).
🚓 Not posing a threat to public order, security or public health.
⚖️ Not having a criminal record in Spain and in the countries where they have resided in the last five years, for crimes existing in the Spanish legal system.
🚫 Not being listed as inadmissible in the Schengen area.
🛑 Not being within the commitment period of non-return to Spain.
🗓️ Having resided continuously in Spain for at least the two years prior to the submission of the application.
📚 Prove one of the following situations:
Being enrolled or attending one of the following educational programs:
Completing post-compulsory secondary education.
Vocational training (level 1, 2 or 3 certificate of professionalism).
Mandatory education for adults.
Being enrolled or attending or committing to undertake training promoted by the Public Employment Services of Spain and aimed at occupations included in the Catalogue of Hard-to-Fill Positions.
🏘️ Accreditation of the social integration effort of the foreign person, validated by providing a favourable report that can be issued by the Autonomous Communities or, where applicable, by the Municipalities, in whose territory the foreign person has their habitual residence.

🇪🇸 Supporting documentation of continuous residence in Spain for a minimum period of two years.
👮🏼♂️ Criminal record certificate issued by the authorities of the country or countries where you have resided during the last five years prior to the submission of the application.
Specific Documents
🫱🏼🫲🏾 Integration effort report (informe de esfuerzo de integración) issued by the Autonomous Community or, where applicable, by the City Council, in whose territory the applicant has their usual residence.
📚 Training accreditation, one of the following documents, depending on the case:
Enrolment in the planned training, admission or current undertaking of the training, in the cases of post-compulsory secondary education, vocational training, and adult education.
Commitment to complete the training, reflected in the official application form or through written declaration, in the case of training promoted by the SEPE and aimed at occupations included in the Catalogue of Hard-to-Fill Positions.
⚠️ In the case of providing a commitment to complete the training, proof of enrollment must be submitted to the Foreigners' Office within a maximum period of three months from the notification of the granting of the authorization. Otherwise, the Office may revoke the authorization.
