We are already on the 11th of June and this means that exactly 19 days remain to apply for the extraordinary roots (arraigo). Therefore, we want to take advantage of this post to encourage you to apply for it now if you are in an irregular situation in Spain and have not yet processed your papers.

πŸ€” What Is the Extraordinary Roots (Arraigo)?

This is an exceptional administrative regularisation process approved by the Government for migrant individuals who already reside in Spain.

Simply by starting the administrative procedure, you will automatically obtain a Social Security Number (NUSS) and a resolution recognising your right to receive healthcare. Once approved, you will obtain an initial residence and work authorisation valid for one year, which will allow you to work throughout the national territory, either as an employee or as a self-employed worker.

After that year, you will be able to extend this authorisation, or modify it to a temporary residence and work authorisation as an employee or self-employed worker.

⏳ The Clock Is Ticking: Do Not Wait Until the Last Day

Applications can be submitted online and in person uninterruptedly, but there will be no confirmed extensions after the 30th of June.

Do not leave your future to chance. Files require precision and presenting a document incorrectly can lead to a request for information or the rejection of your regularisation. At Traam, we are experts in immigration affairs and can process your application safely, quickly, and without you having to leave your home.

πŸ€“ Main Requirements: What Do You Need to Apply?

To benefit from this measure, you must comply with the following conditions:

Date of arrival: Prove that you were in Spain before the 1st of January 2026.

Stay in the country: Prove an uninterrupted stay in Spain of at least five months at the time of submitting the application.

Criminal record: Have no criminal record both in Spain and in the countries where you have resided during the last 5 years.

Additional requirement (must meet at least one):

  • Have worked or prove the intention to do so (with a job offer or formal declaration), or

  • Have a family unit made up of minor children, adult children with disabilities, or first-degree relatives in the ascending line, or

  • Be in a situation of proven vulnerability.

International protection: You will also be able to access it if you have applied for international protection in Spain before the 1st of January 2026.

❌ Who Is It Not Aimed At?

You should not start this process if you find yourself in any of these situations:

  • If you already have a valid residence authorisation or one in the process of extension or renewal (pending resolution).

  • If you are a person fleeing the conflict in Ukraine with temporary protection, as you have a separate procedure with no deadline.

  • If you are a stateless person covered by the specific regulations of your status.

⚠️ Essential Documentation

The success of your application depends on presenting everything correctly. Generally speaking, you will need to collect:

  • A complete passport, valid or expired (copy of all pages).

  • Criminal record certificate from your country of origin (and from the countries where you have resided in the last 5 years). It must be apostilled or legalised, and translated (if not in Spanish).

  • Proof of stay in Spain before the 1st of January 2026: Historical census certificate (certificado de empadronamiento), invoices, medical appointments, money transfers, public transport passes, etc.

  • Specific documentation for your case: Pre-contract/job offer or formal declaration of starting self-employed activity (work activity option), or census form and birth certificates/family record book (family unit option), if applying due to family ties, or vulnerability certificate (vulnerability status option).

πŸ§‘β€πŸ§‘β€πŸ§’β€πŸ§’ What Happens to Family Members?

If your family unit is made up of the following members, the applications can be submitted simultaneously (at the same time), and they will also be resolved together.

  • First-degree relatives in the ascending line (father/mother)*

  • Spouse or registered partner*

*They must meet the requirements, that is, prove the general requirements to access the extraordinary arraigo.

  • Sons/daughters, minors or adults with disabilities.

In the case of children, extraordinary arraigo can also be requested via articles 159 and 160 of the Immigration Regulations 1155/2024 with certain special rules during this period: simply, they must meet the requirement of having remained in Spain since before the 1st of January 2026 and during the last five months prior to submitting the application.
